The thinking athlete's preworkout. Except it isn't one.

100mg natural caffeine, 200mg L-theanine, 100mg choline. Built for sports where you have to solve problems while someone's trying to choke you.

Zero sugar · Sweetened with organic monk fruit · Contains organic ingredients

Most preworkout was built for one job: moving heavy stuff. Big caffeine, big tingles, big music. Great when the plan is squat, rest, squat.

Grappling is a different job. Every round is a string of decisions under pressure — grips, angles, when to bail, when to commit. A racing heart and a shaky hand won't find you the underhook. Here's why grapplers are switching to something built for focus.

Six reasons

01

Grappling is problem solving at 150 to 190 bpm

Lifting asks your body a hard question and your brain an easy one. Grappling asks both at once. Heart rate studies on jiu jitsu sparring put the average around 150 bpm during live rounds with peaks near 190, roughly 80 to 95 percent of max. [1] And you're doing that while reading weight shifts, predicting reactions, and remembering the sequence coach showed you ten minutes ago.

Being "up" isn't enough at that heart rate. You need to be clear. POG pairs 100mg of natural caffeine with 200mg of L-theanine and 100mg of choline, a stack designed for calm, aimed energy rather than a stimulant spike.

02

100mg is the point, not a compromise

Researchers who analyzed the 100 best-selling preworkout supplements found an average of 254mg of caffeine per serving. [2] That's about two and a half cups of coffee before you've bowed onto the mat. [3]

POG is 100mg, about one cup, from organic green tea and organic yerba mate. A large 2016 review of caffeine research found that alertness, attention, vigilance, and reaction time improve across the low to moderate range, roughly 40 to 300mg. [4] The bottom of that range is a feature. Enough to show up sharp for a 7pm class after a full workday, not so much that you're buzzing through the drilling.

03

Twice the L-theanine to caffeine

L-theanine is the amino acid found in green tea that researchers have paired with caffeine for years. In a 2008 double-blind crossover trial, the combination improved both speed and accuracy on an attention-switching task and reduced how easily participants were distracted, more than caffeine alone did. [5] A second 2008 trial at a higher dose found the combination produced faster reaction times and higher self-rated alertness than either ingredient by itself. [6]

POG uses a 2-to-1 ratio, 200mg L-theanine to 100mg caffeine, which is why the on-ramp is designed to feel smooth rather than jittery. Smooth energy, sharp focus. That's the whole idea in four words.

04

Choline, for the part of jiu jitsu that's memory

Jiu jitsu is the most technique-dense sport most people will ever do. Choline is an essential nutrient your body uses to make acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter involved in memory, muscle control, and other nervous system functions. [7] Most Americans don't hit the recommended daily intake through food alone. [7]

POG delivers 100mg of choline from VitaCholine. Remembering the whole back-take sequence is a real advantage. Choline supports that side of the game.*

05

Zero sugar, sweetened with organic fruit

POG is sweetened with organic monk fruit, an actual fruit, never stevia (Sean's rule, stevia leaves a bitter aftertaste) and never sucralose. Zero sugar. No artificial colors or dyes. Three actives, all listed with their exact amounts.

Compare that to the preworkout aisle, where the same analysis found 58 of the top 100 products hid at least one ingredient inside a proprietary blend. [2] No proprietary blends here, because "energy matrix" isn't an ingredient.

Passion fruit, orange, guava. It tastes like a drink you'd choose, not one you tolerate.

06

It mixes in the parking lot (and won't wreck tomorrow)

One stick, 8 to 12 oz of water, shake. No scoop, no tub rolling around your gym bag, no neon foam. Made for the ten minutes between clocking out and bowing in.

Dose matters here too. A 2023 meta-analysis on caffeine and sleep found that a standard coffee's worth of caffeine (about 107mg) is best consumed roughly 9 hours before bed, while a typical preworkout dose (about 217mg) pushes that window to 13 hours. [8] If your class is at 7 or 8pm, that's the difference between a stick that fits your schedule and one that doesn't. Everyone's tolerance is different, so start earlier if you're sensitive to caffeine.

"No disrespect to lifting — I lift. But a barbell doesn't fight back. In grappling every position is a problem you have to solve, and you can't solve problems shaking. That's why POG is 100mg and not 300."

FAQ

Can I still drink coffee?

Please do. We do. POG is designed for the 30 minutes before training, coffee owns the morning. Just don't stack them back to back, 100mg of caffeine is 100mg of caffeine, and most health authorities put the daily ceiling for healthy adults around 400mg. [3]

Is it a preworkout?

Not in the traditional sense. No beta-alanine tingles, no 250mg stimulant hit. It's an energy + focus stick designed for sports where a clear head matters as much as a fast body.

How much caffeine is 100mg?

Roughly one 8 oz cup of brewed coffee, which averages about 96mg. [3]

Can I take it at night class?

Everyone's caffeine tolerance is different. Many customers choose POG for evening classes specifically because it's 100mg rather than 250. See reason 6 for what the sleep research says about dose and timing. If you're sensitive to caffeine, start earlier in the day.

Is it Informed Sport certified?

Not yet. Our Coconut Lime and Raspberry performance electrolytes are certified with Informed Sport. POG certification is in progress and we'll update this page when it issues.

What's in it?

100mg natural caffeine (organic green tea + organic yerba mate), 200mg L-theanine, 100mg choline (from 250mg VitaCholine choline bitartrate). Other ingredients: organic natural flavors, citric acid, organic monk fruit extract, malic acid, Himalayan pink salt, organic bamboo extract.
